In a nutshell… I am a mother, a wife, a daughter, a sister, a friend, a Virginia Tech Hokie and a photographer. I love the color yellow, blaring music while I am alone in my car, daisies, my iphone, unsweet tea and taking photographs.
I discovered my love of photography many years ago when I first moved to Charlotte. It was actually a result of not having too many friends here yet and needing something to occupy my time on the weekends. A friend at work was a photographer and was kind enough to show me some technical tricks. My father was kind enough to “lend” (aka: “give”) me his Canon 35mm. It kind of just took off from there and I guess I figured out that I had a natural talent for capturing a moment on film. And if nothing else, I loved the feeling I could evoke in a photograph. Even if no one else saw what I saw in that picture – it created something in me that I’d never felt before.
Over the years, I have developed a niche in photographing children and families. I suspect that it stems from the fact that I am a mother first and foremost in my life. I want to remember these days with my children forever. Each and every second is flying by and I want to Slow. It. Down. I try to capture little moments of my children here and there with my camera. I don’t do it nearly enough, but when I do and when I get those pictures printed and in my hands or hung on my walls – nothing can quite express what I feel when I look at my babies. And I will have that forever.
I’ve been told that I have a way of making people feel comfortable in the front of the camera. Each time I have a photo session; it is my sincere goal to enable the family/kids to play, to have fun and to be themselves. All of that makes my job really simple, actually. I am just capturing your life's natural moments. Thank you for entrusting me with your family’s memories and I hope that I make you proud.
